We are actually family-run
Not a franchise or a trading name over a call centre. Colin runs it, prices the work himself and stays involved, and you deal with the same people each visit. Our reputation in this town is the whole business.
We are a local family business looking after homes and commercial property across East Sussex, built on word of mouth and customers who come back to us.
Gas Safe registered, FMB members and family-run in Eastbourne.
CB Property Maintenance is a family-run building firm based on Hyde Gardens in Eastbourne. We look after homes, rentals, blocks of flats and commercial buildings across East Sussex, covering everyday repairs, full refurbishments and larger building work such as extensions and conversions.
Colin runs the business, and he still comes out to look at work and price it himself. That matters more than it sounds. It means the person who quotes you is the person answerable for how the job turns out, and there is nobody in between to pass the blame to. It is his name above the door.
We have built the business on word of mouth and on customers who come back to us, which tells you a fair bit about how we like to work. A good deal of what we do this month will be for people we first worked for years ago, or for their neighbours and family.
When you ring, you are dealing with the same family and the same familiar faces each time, not a call centre and not a different subcontractor every week.
Most people have been let down by a builder at some point. The price that crept up halfway through. The tradesman who stopped turning up. The work that looked fine at first and started causing problems a few months later.
When it is your home at stake, that is a lot to risk on someone you have only just met, and the trade has not always helped itself. We hear those stories constantly, and they are a large part of why we do things the way we do.
The other thing people tell us is how hard it is to get anyone to turn up and quote at all, particularly for smaller jobs. We take those on, and we answer the phone.
So we would rather be judged on the boring things: turning up, keeping you informed, clearing up, and the price at the end matching the price at the start.
You get work finished to a high standard by people who take pride in it and do not cut corners to save themselves time. Before we start, we come and take a look, talk you through the options in a way that makes sense, and give you a clear, honest price so you know exactly where you stand.
Nothing gets tacked on at the end that you were not told about. If we open something up and find a problem underneath, we stop, show you and agree it with you before carrying on.
We turn up when we say we will, keep dust and mess down, and clear up at the end of each day rather than the end of the job.
Whatever the size of the job, you have one team looking after it and a family business standing behind the work. That is the part our customers tell us they value most.
There are plenty of builders in East Sussex. These are the reasons customers give us for choosing us and for coming back.

Plumbing, electrics, carpentry, plastering, tiling, roofing and decorating are all our own team. One company sequences the job, so nothing waits on a subcontractor and one person answers for the result.
Solid walled Victorian terraces, nineteen thirties semis with corroding wall ties, converted flats and seafront blocks. Knowing how each behaves changes the materials and the method, and it is why our work lasts.
We look before we quote, itemise the work so you can see what is included, and stick to it. If something hidden turns up we show you and price it before carrying on rather than adding it at the end.
Gas Safe registered and members of the Federation of Master Builders, NAPIT and the FSB, with public liability insurance and certificates issued for gas and electrical work as a matter of course.
It sounds trivial and it is the thing customers mention most. Floors protected, dust kept down, cleared up daily, waste taken away. Most of our work is in occupied homes, so we work as though someone lives there.
Every job follows roughly the same path, and nothing costs you anything until you have a written price you are happy with.
You can see the range of what we take on across property maintenance, renovations and building work.
Client
Colin, Nat and the team carried out the work at a competitive price with the minimum of fuss. Courteous, punctual and could not have been more helpful.
Accreditations matter for two reasons. The first is safety: Gas Safe registration is a legal requirement for gas work and NAPIT membership means our electrical work is assessed against the current wiring regulations, so gas and electrical jobs are certificated rather than just finished.
The second is that an outside body has looked at how we work rather than us simply saying we are good at it. Membership of the Federation of Master Builders involves independent vetting and inspection, and the FSB keeps us plugged into how small businesses are expected to operate.
We carry public liability insurance and we are happy to show any of the paperwork before work starts. You should ask any builder for it, and be wary of anyone who hesitates.
You can read what customers say on our testimonials page, see the work on our case studies page, and meet the team on our meet the team page.
We have been working in and around Eastbourne for years, and a good deal of the work we do now is repeat business or referrals from customers we first worked for a long time ago. If you would like to speak to someone we have worked for, ask and we will see what we can arrange.
Yes. We carry public liability insurance and we are happy to provide the details before work starts. For managing agents and commercial clients we can supply insurance documents, method statements and risk assessments as a matter of course.
We are Gas Safe registered, and members of the Federation of Master Builders, NAPIT and the FSB. That means our gas work is legally registered, our electrical work is assessed against BS 7671 and certificated, and our building work has been independently vetted.
Mostly our own team. Plumbing, electrics, carpentry, plastering, tiling, roofing and decorating are all in house, which is what lets us sequence a job correctly and answer for the whole of it. For truly specialist work we use trusted people we have worked with for years, and we remain responsible for it.
We are based in Eastbourne and work across the whole of East Sussex, including Bexhill, Hastings, Seaford, Newhaven, Polegate, Hailsham, Pevensey, Willingdon, Lewes, Uckfield, Heathfield, Crowborough and Battle, and over towards Brighton.
No. Coming to look at a job and giving you a written price is free and carries no obligation, whatever the size of the job.
Yes. Our workmanship is guaranteed and manufacturer warranties on materials are passed on to you. If something is not right, ring us and we will come back and sort it. Being local and reliant on word of mouth is the strongest guarantee there is.
Yes. Ask and we will put you in touch with customers we have worked for, and there is feedback on our testimonials page. For larger jobs we are happy for you to look at work in progress or recently completed.
We are based on Hyde Gardens in Eastbourne, so the town and the villages around it are home ground for us. We are out working here most days and we know the housing well, including the older seafront terraces, the Victorian and Edwardian houses in Upperton and Meads, and the newer estates and blocks of flats nearer the edge of town.
From Eastbourne we cover the whole of East Sussex. Along the coast that takes in Bexhill, Hastings, Seaford, Newhaven, Brighton, where salt air and driving rain are hard on any building. Inland we work regularly in Polegate, Hailsham, Pevensey, Willingdon, Lewes, Uckfield, Heathfield, Crowborough, Battle and the smaller villages between them, where period cottages and country properties often need a gentler approach and older materials matched carefully.
Being local matters for everything we do. We can get to you quickly to take a look, we know the buildings and the ground conditions, and we are never far away if you need us again. If your village is not on the list there is a good chance we still reach you, so give us a call on 01323 671001 and we will tell you either way.
We are Gas Safe registered and members of the Federation of Master Builders, NAPIT and the FSB. Those memberships mean our gas, electrical and building work is measured against recognised standards, and that an outside body has looked at how we work rather than us simply saying we are good at it. For a family business our reputation matters more than anything, and we have built it one customer at a time.
